“People take different roads seeking fulfillment and happiness. Just because they’re not on your road doesn’t mean they’ve gotten lost.” ~ H. Jackson Brown, Jr.
It’s all too easy to sort people – we are given all the props through the media and the trends fostered by marketing machines and corporate or political agendas. Even in the spiritual realm and new age communities, the tendency to equate certain lifestyle choices and body shapes with good and bad is known as ‘spiritual superiority’. The irony is that the steady incline to outward displays of excellence rarely reflect the kind of self-fulfilment that is deeply transformational and lasting.
Sometimes we have to lose ourselves before we can find ourselves. Sometimes it is awkward and not pretty. Sometimes it flies in the face of the standards of acceptable behaviour of the clan, the community or the world. It may be initiation through complete breaking apart that causes us to open to our fullest potential. It may look like addiction, grief, loss, failure, but the opportunity for fulfilment is there nonetheless. We are all on the road to our greatness; destination Self. We just follow a different drummer.
Me agapi,
Marilyn
